From: neilking@bigpond.net.au Following our promotion of the proposed Asian Tour at the national carnival Presentation Night, a number of players have contacted us and advised of their interest in the tour. AFL Masters is planning a tour of Asia in late May/early June 2011 and we would be most grateful if you could consider forwarding this email to any of your masters club members. The following information is provided to those players and members who have shown interest. AFL Masters proposes a tour that will be attractive to both players on their own or with travelling partners and family members ... much like the annual national carnival. Initially we propose a tour in 2011 along the following lines... These teams are made up of predominantly older ex pat Australians, just like our own masters teams and they love a kick of the football. We will stay at good hotels, around $100 - $120 per room in Singapore and around $80 - $100 per room ($40 - $50 per head twin share) in other places and will stay in each location for 2 - 3 days. There are plenty of side tours on offer in each city and frankly, the living and travel costs in each of these Asian cities are pretty inexpensive. Those who want to finish the tour in KL can then fly home while some may be interested in going onto Bali and playing in the Bali Masters 9s on Saturday 11th June, part of the Queens Birthday weekend. This will make the longer tour around 17 - 18 days. You can see some info on the Bali Masters 9s at the following website: http://baligeckos.org/?page_id=117 or at www.worldfootynews.com/article.php/20100424102854502 We have investigated group discount air fares but can't even get close to the sale fares constantly on offer from Jetstar, Air Asia and Tiger Air. It is cheaper for you to organize your own flights on the internet. Jetstar flies out of most Australian capital cities but there are some very inexpensive links on offer from Air Asia via KL and Tiger Air from some capital cities. The inter Asia airfares on offer from Jetstar and Air Asia are amazing. One-way fares from say KL to the other Asian cities are as low as $30 - $60 one way. |
Therefore, once we firm up the tour and finalize the locations, we will be suggesting that all who are interested should check out the best available fares on each of these websites and then make internet bookings. AFL Masters will make all the other arrangements once everyone arrives, including accommodation. We have plenty of time and are at the moment seeking contact from those who are interested in finding out more. We propose to gather a list and then by mid to late November 2010, we can determine if the tour is a 'goer'. At that stage we would intend to appoint a tour coach, more than likely one of our ex AFL players who coaches in the masters and also advise of expected cost of any other items such as team uniforms etc. If this event becomes popular we intend to then run a similar tour each year but changing the locations to some of the other Asian cities that have ex pat AFL teams. Send me an email if you are interested and I'll keep you informed.
